Four Schools Win Veg Awards

Representatives from four school districts have won Golden Carrot awards from the vegetarian advocacy group Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PMRC) for their plant-based menus. Vino Mitra of Oceanside (CA) USD won the $3,000 grand prize. There were three runners-up each winning $1,000:

• Kim Stewart, MS, RD, and Liz Purnell, RD, nutrition educators at Memphis City Schools;

• Jeffrey Mills, FSD for District of Columbia Public Schools; and

• Serena Suthers, MS, RD, SFNS, food & nutrition services director for Prince William County VA) Public Schools.
