Oct. 6—Flik Independent School Dining has hired Christian J. Fischer as its corporate executive chef. Flik says that in his position, Fischer will collaborate with the management team to develop innovate culinary and nutrition programming; implement culinary operation plans and systems; and conduct regional and companywide culinary meetings to share his vision with Flik’s team of school chefs and mentor them to be culinary leaders within their regions and local school communities.

The Austrian-born Fischer, opened his first restaurant at the age of 19, before working in Turkey, Italy and Greece among other European countries. He is one of a handful of European Master Chefs.

Since coming to the United States, Fischer owned a four-star restaurant in Connecticut. He most recently was corporate executive chef for Lackmann Culinary Services, where he discovered a passion for feeding young adults.

“I recognize what an important role school chefs play,” he said in a press release. “We help to shape the food preferences and eating habits of growing children and I take that responsibility very seriously. I look forward to guiding Flik’s culinary vision for serving fresh, wholesome food that has been responsibly sourced to kids in a fun and innovative way.”
