District to expand school dinner program

Metro Nashville Public Schools in Nashville is expanding its after-school dinner program to include 35 schools, The Tennessean reports.

The program is available to any student who participates in a school-sponsored after-school activity. School officials hope that the dinner will help combat student hunger. Currently, over 73% of families in the district qualify for free and reduced-price school lunches.

The district hopes to double the size of the program to 70 schools by next year.
