Dallas Independent School District (Dallas ISD) will be participating in the inaugural National Plastic-Free School Lunch Day this fall.

Created by the Urban School Food Alliance and nonprofit Cafeteria Culture, National Plastic-Free School Lunch Day challenges school nutrition teams to prepare lunch without plastic. The event will be held on Nov. 2.

Dallas ISD says it is the first district in Texas to participate.

In May, NYC Public Schools held its own plastic-free lunch day, with over 750 elementary schools joining in.

As school nutrition programs emerge from the pandemic, many are re-implementing a variety of  sustainability initiatives.
