Chicago Public Schools launches its 1st chef council

Chicago Public Schools has launched its first Chicago Chef Council to help develop and promote school meals, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. 

The 12-member council includes commercial chefs from the city such as Josephine “Mother” Wade owner of Josephine’s Southern Cooking as well as chefs from food advocacy groups such as Art Smith from nonprofit Common Threads. 

The chefs will be responsible for developing new menu items for the district’s breakfast, lunch and after-school meals. Throughout the year, the chefs will also visit schools to do demonstrations, provide samples and hand out recipes for students to take home.
