Chicago Public Schools faces backlash over early lunch time

Parents and students are not pleased that a high school is adding a lunch period before 10:00 a.m.

Chicago Public Schools is receiving criticism from parents and students over adding a 9:50 a.m. lunch period at one of its high schools, Block Club Chicago reports.

Students and parents at Lane Tech High School say that the early meal time should be considered breakfast and that students who have that lunch period will be hungry in the afternoon.

Officials say the new early lunch period allows more flexibility for electives and that it will help accommodate its larger class sizes. They also suggested that students with early lunch times bring snacks to school.
