Boulder (CO) High School has opened a renovated cafeteria that features a greater emphasis on healthful eating and a blending of the a la carte and reimbursable lunch lines. Paid for with a $100,000 grant from the National Dairy Council, the project was intended to modernize the space and give it a more commercial food court feel. The old long tables were replaced with a combination of small rounds, booths and a counter, a new lounge area was added on the lower of the space’s split levels and the color scheme was updated to feature a brighter and more vibrant palette (purple, gold, orange, lime and red). Boulder High is one of seven schools chosen for a "restyle" paid for by the dairy council. As part of the revamp, milk will now be offered in plastic bottles from mobile, refrigerated serving carts. As part of the blending of the a la carte and reimbursable lunch lines—done to reduce the stigma of getting subsidized meals—all the pizza will now come from an outside vendor that had previously supplied only the a la carte pizza.
