Pitt County (NC) Memorial Hospital will renovate its main kitchen facility in anticipation of a need for extra capacity when the institution’s new Eastern Carolina Heart Institute begins operation in 2008. Capacity will be added by expanding the kitchen storage into adjacent areas and constructing a building addition to establish improved receiving, storage and retrieval processes for food ingredients. The renovation will establish improved ingredient preparation, food production and refrigerated holding areas. The existing ware-washing equipment and ware storage area will be revised to provide two workstations and increase washing output. The project will be phased to maintain kitchen functions while construction occurs and will encompass approximately 6,500 square feet. Th ehospital has engaged the FreemanWhite design firm to provide design services for the project.
