June 27—The Ottawa Hospital will be closing its two campus cafeterias on weekends and holidays starting next week, limiting workers’ access to healthy food options, says support worker union president Bruce Waller.

The schedule changes are part of broad sweeping cost cutting measures devised by the hospital in January, says Joanne Read, senior director of support services, ambulatory care and eye care.

She says the hospital did a study of the cafeterias’ traffic and determined the weekends saw significantly less business than weekdays.
