DECATUR, Ill.—When Marcia Wimmer learned this year's theme for Decatur Memorial Hospital's “Hearts Around the World” event, she immediately went home to recover a certain cookbook, which contained German recipes she had safeguarded for more than 40 years.

Wimmer, who serves as special events coordinator at DMH, lived in Worms, Germany, for two years while her husband was stationed there. She would traverse the local library often and copied down many recipes for German cuisine.

After months of taste-testing and various preparations, Wimmer was able to put the recipes to use Saturday as “Hearts Around the World” showcased food and ambiance from Germany, Poland, Belgium, Switzerland and Denmark.
