Vidant Medical Center is revamping its food service, joining a growing list of hospitals in North Carolina that are turning to “hotel-style room service.”

The focus is due in part because Medicare is now basing its payments partly on “patient satisfaction surveys.”

Vidant will offer a new program called “At Your Request.”

Patients will call to a center where staff will offer more meal options than before.

Those meals will be catered through an electronic database containing a patient’s food allergies and orders from their doctor.

There will no longer be set meal delivery times as patients can order any time during the day.
