Vidant Medical Center, the teaching hospital for East Carolina University, recently completed a multimillion dollar renovation of its main cafeteria and kitchen areas, opening on Oct. 5. In addition to grill, pizza, soup, deli and hot food favorites, the cafeteria provides Freshii's and Star Ginger stations.

There are also cafes in the Children’s Hospital lobby (Café Bay), serving soups, sandwiches and Sodexo’s Simply to Go grab-and-go fare, and the East Carolina Heart Institute Café, which specializes in heart-healthy menu selections and grab and go.

A coffee shop in the hospital’s main lobby and a Starbucks Coffee Corner adjacent to the main cafeteria round out the fixed retail dining options, but a food cart that makes regular stops at designated areas at specific times from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday through Friday provides another meal solution during lunchtime. The hospital is also transitioning from traditional tray service for its patient meals to Sodexo’s At Your Request room service platform beginning in December.
