UAB Hospital switched to a room service style model for patient dining five years ago and today patients are able to order meals off the room service menu anytime between 6:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., with delivery within 45 minutes. That menu includes select items created and prepared under the guidance of James Beard-award winning local chef Frank Stitt.

On the retail side, UAB has redesigned its North Pavilion food court, expanded its cafeteria, renovated the onsite Starbucks unit, opened the first full-service Au Bon Pain unit in the state and reopened the onsite Subway unit in a new location.
