ANFP Meets in Savannah

Nutrition services organization chooses new leaders, presents annual awards

The association of Nutrition & Foodservice Professionals (ANFP) held its premier National Leadership Conference Savannah, GA, in late July, with the more interactive, dynamic program earning high marks from attendees with its mix of education, networking, exhibits, and service innovations.  

In addition, ANFP’s Leadership Institute, an intense three-day course designed to instill competence and confidence in participants, was held just prior to the conference. Nearly 250 certified dietary managers (CDMs) have completed the program to date, built on four leadership pillars.

The group elected new leadership at the conference, with Paula Bradley, CDM, CFPP selected as 2013-2014 chair of the board.  Bradley is the foodservice director at Protection Valley Manor in Protection, KS. The chair elect is Kathryn Massey, BA, CDM, CFPP, a CDM at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, IA, while Janice Hemel, CDM, CFPP was elected secretary-treasurer. Hemel is a CDM at Lane County Hospital & Long Term Care in Dighton, KS.

Two new directors at large took office during the conference: Richard Hoelzel, FMP, CDM, CFPP, corporate executive chef for Morrison Senior Living in Cabot, AR, and Sherri Williams, MHS, CDM, CFPP, director of nutrition services for Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville, AR.

Continuing their term as directors at large are: Terri Edens, CDM, CFPP, corporate dietary manager field supervisor at Heritage Enterprises in Bloomington, Ill.; Sharon Vermeer, CDM, CFPP, dietary manager at Orange City Area Health System in Orange City, Iowa; Michael Roddey, MS Ed, CDM, CFPP, CEC, CCE, FMP, president of Gastronomic Services & Consulting in Altoona, Pa.; and Cathy Wheatley, CDM, CFPP, foodservice director at Royal Oaks/Pathways in Windsor, Mo.

Meanwhile, Kevin Loughran, director of support services for food and dining at Healthcare Services Group, joined Jeff Patton, vice president of procurement at Brookdale Senior Living, Inc. in Brentwood, Tenn., on the ANFP Board as directors at large representing industry.

Newly-appointed to the ANFP Board as a Corporate Partner Member is Beth Naber, MS, RD, director of senior living for healthcare at US Foods in Canton, MI. She joins Teri Kopp, healthcare account development/consultant for Hubert Co.

Debra Dawson, CDM, CFPP will serve as liaison to Healthcare Caterers International (HCI).  She is the nutrition services director at Bishop Drumm Care Center in Johnston, IA.
