The dining team at the University of California at Los Angeles has partnered with three student organizations to launch a program that serves free leftover food to students, The Daily Bruin reports.

Named Bruin Dine, the program will provide leftover food from two UCLA dining halls on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, with the goal of reducing food insecurity and waste on campus.

A 2016 study by the university found that 42% of its students experienced food insecurity that year due to financial struggles.

Program leaders are looking to purchase reusable trays and utensils to replace the disposable ones currently used and would like to eventually expand Bruin Dine to offer food on more weeknights.
