An attempt by a student group and the Humane Society of the United States to implement a Meatless Mondays program at Chico State University in California has met with resistance from students and faculty of the university's College of Agriculture. The HSUS, working with Associated Students Dining Service and Chico for Animal Rights, proposed the program as a way to "bring different options and more sustainable measures" to campus, according to a spokeswoman for the student animal rights group.

But after receiving complaints from students and faculty, university administrators issued a statement saying basically that the move had not been approved by the university.
