Steam ovens help Miss. district serve healthier food

Natchez-Adams School District is providing students with healthier meal options by replacing its fryers with steam ovens, reports The Natchez Democrat.

The Natchez, Miss., school district will this fall complete a multiyear effort to replace fryers in all of its schools with the ovens, which are paid for in part with grant funding.

“With this new equipment, our goal is to make our school breakfasts and lunches as healthy as possible so that are students are healthy, fit and ready to succeed,” the district’s child nutrition supervisor, Shantoura Spears, told the Democrat.
