City Eats, the dining program at San Francisco State University (SFSU), has launched a food donation program.

Named Gator Grub, the program will provide weekly food donations to food insecure students on campus using surplus food from the dining program.

Students will be able to receive push notifications about the availability of the food on their phone via the school’s app.

Food insecurity continues to be a growing problem at college campuses. A recent report by the California Student Aid Commission revealed that college students who receive financial aid in California are experiencing growing rates of food insecurity.

Schools across the country are looking at ways to make sure students stay fed on campus. The university of Pittsburgh, for example, installed food lockers on campus for food insecure students and other schools are utilizing meal swipe donations and more to make sure students can access meals during the school year.
