Restaurant Associates, Marcus Samuelsson open pop up as part of partnership
September 7, 2011
Sept. 7— Celebrity chef Marcus Samuelsson is opening a pop-up restaurant outside Lincoln Center in New York as part of his collaboration with Restaurant Associates’ corporate and cultural dining operations.
The Global Street Food restaurant will operate just for a week, starting Sept. 8, to coincide with the busiest stretch of New York’s fall fashion season. It will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m., with a DJ on at least one of the nights.
On his blog, Samuelsson said the café’s menu will feature “global comfort foods” priced from $5 to $12 per plate. He cited such examples as Mexican corn on the cob, beer-braised wurst and sauerkraut, and Ethiopian lentil and cabbage salad.
Additional features include a designer to greet guests as they enter the pop-up from Alice Tully Hall, one of Lincoln Center’s main entertainment venues.
Samuelsson recommended that would-be customers follow him on Twitter for updates on activities at the café.
The pop-up is the result of a partnership that New York-based Restaurant Associates struck with Samuelsson in early spring. Samuelsson is the chef-proprietor of such acclaimed restaurants as New York’s Red Rooster and Aquavit.
