Perez and Toomey Bueno to speak at Critical Issues Conference

April 8—Betty Perez and Regina Toomey Bueno, two New York-area foodservice operators, are among the featured speakers at the SFM Critical Issues conference, which will be held April 15 in New York City. The conference’s theme “Health and Workplace Wellness: Issues and Solutions.”

Perez and Toomey Bueno are scheduled to speak during a panel called “Taking Action," where Brian Schwagerl, vice president of corporate real estate and facilities for Hearst, will join them to discuss how their respective operations navigated through health-related issues. They’ll also share best practices in the panel.

Perez is director of food and nutrition services at The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey-The University Hospital in Newark, N.J. Toomey Bueno is senior director of food and nutrition services at NYU Langone Medical Center in New York City.

Another session, titled “Learn from the Leaders,” will feature Derek Yach, senior vice president of global health at PepsiCo, discussing the continuing threat of obesity and share wellness solutions. During the same session, attendees will hear from Ned Monroe, senior vice president of government affairs for the National Automatic Merchandising Association, who will speak about the impact government legislation can have on foodservice operation’s bottom line.

In the final session, titled “Bringing it Home,” Terry Adams, president of Adams Consulting Group, will speak about key techniques to help manage operations during the tough economic climate while still producing quality work from a personal development perspective.
