The dining team at Pennsylvania State University in State College, Pa., is hosting a cooking competition for its student workers, the school’s student newspaper reports.

Sponsored by Barilla, the competition tasks culinary apprentices with coming up with their own pasta dish. At Penn State, culinary apprentices are student dining hall employees who were promoted at a manager’s recommendation or who have an interest in cooking.

In teams of two, the apprentices worked with managing chefs to create their dishes.

The first round of the competition was held in early February, and some teams are moving on to compete in the finals next month.

Winners will receive a grand prize and the chance to have their pasta featured on the school's menu in the fall.
