Outsourcing foodservice recommended at Texas A&M

June 4—A special committee selected to review on-campus dining at Texas A&M has recommended that the university outsource its food services, two sources with direct knowledge of the decision said.

The endorsement was relayed Friday in a letter to A&M president R. Bowen Loftin. If Loftin accepts the advice, negotiations with food service companies will begin and a contract with a private provider could be finalized within a month.

Outsourcing has been a controversial idea on campus since A&M System Chancellor John Sharp proposed it early this year. But the committee determined that contracting with an outside company could generate as much as $125 million in incremental revenue over the next 10 years, one source said.
