Foodservice operator HMSHost has partnered with reservation platform OpenTable to offer virtual waitlists at seven airports across the country.

Guests can join the waitlists, which are available at 15 restaurants, in person or via QR code and are alerted by text message when their table is ready. The next iteration of the partnership will allow reservations made in advance, according to a press release.

“This is an exciting step HMSHost is taking to revolutionize the airport restaurant experience,” HMSHost Vice President of Digital Neil Thompson said in the release. “Together with OpenTable, we are proud to be leading the way in incorporating more user-friendly technology in busy airports across the country.”

Summer travel demand has increased an average of 34% over last year, according to search data compiled by OpenTable sister company KAYAK.
