Garett DiStefano named new UMass director of residential dining

Nov. 21—After a nationwide search Garett DiStefano has been named director of residential dining at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. UMass Dining Services manages one of the largest dining program in the country with revenues of more than 70 million annually. The program serves more than 40,000 meals daily.
DiStefano replaces Ken Toong, who was promoted to executive director of auxillary services for UMass in July 2010. With experience in restaurants and finance, DiStefano came to UMass two years ago as area manager at UMass’s signature dining facility, Berkshire Dining Commons. DiStefano received his bachelor’s degree from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., and is working toward his MBA.
Ken Toong said of DiStefano: “I have confidence that Garett will be successful in his new role, with his extensive retail experience as we continue to enhance our program.”
