With a presentation Friday morning from consultant Georgie Shockey, the 21st HFM Conference became history, but not before its last awards were presented and the gavel was passed to not only a new president but a new organization.

At Thursday's Awards Dinner, HFM three most significant awards were handed out. They included the President's Award, which President Bruce Thomas gave to Cindy Parker of Basic American Foods for her work in helping Thomas during his presidency.

The third John Cabot "Making a Difference" Award was presented to Marty Rothschild of Aladdin Temp-Rite for his efforts at making HFM a strong organization over the years.

The Angelo Gagliano Operator of the Year Award was given to Mary Angela Miller of Ohio State University Medical Center for her accomplishments in healthcare foodservice and within HFM.

At the end of the evening, Bruce Thomas gave a touching speech as he closed the books on HFM, which was dissolved after the conference. He then passed the reins to Kris Shcroeder of Swedish Medical Center, who will be the first president of the new Association for Healthcare Foodservice. The new organization represents a melding of HFM with the American Society for Healthcare Food Service Administrators.
