District uses ‘Taste it Tuesdays’ to get menu feedback

If enough students enjoy a Tuesday test meal, it becomes a permanent offering.

Student feedback is being used to design the lunch menu at Clark County School District in Las Vegas, which serves 1.2 million meals each week, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reports.

On select Tuesdays, a new lunch item is offered as part of the district’s Taste it Tuesdays. School officials ask students questions about the meal and make note of the feedback they receive. If enough students enjoy the item, it becomes a permanent fixture on the menu.

The idea was introduced by the district’s registered dietitian, Lory Hayon, who says that it has become increasingly difficult to come up with menu options that are well received by students and meet nutritional requirements.
