District stops using foam trays after student’s proposal

An interest in technology and science helped students at Licking Valley Elementary School convince their school board to switch to biodegradable lunch trays,  reports the Newarkadvocate.com.

The group of students participates in the LEGO Robotic Panthers program, an initiative intended to foster student interest in technology and science.

"They had a very well researched, well reasoned proposition for the board to consider. They had looked at the costs (of the change) and that really impressed me," David Hile, superintendent at LVES, told The Advocate.

The district made the switch from foam trays a few weeks ago after hearing the group’s proposal.
