District raises foodservice wage as salve to hiring struggles

To help find new staff, the school district also said it used an employment agency for the first time in two decades.

Kenosha Unified School District in Kenosha, Wis., is giving a 50% raise to its part-time cafeteria employees after having trouble filling open positions, Kenosha News reports.

The district says that it has had to use a temporary employment agency for the first time in 20 years to help find staff. Officials say that raising the hourly wage from $9.43 to $14.23 will place staff at the same pay rate as those at similar-sized districts and will hopefully attract new employees.
