Uniontown Area School District in Uniontown, Pa., has expanded its locally sourced food options in an effort to increase meal participation, Herald-Standard reports.
New options for students this year include a monthly omelet bar at its high school and one of its middle schools as well as game day meals at its high school.
Available at breakfast, the omelet bar features made-to-order omelets using local ingredients such as cage-free eggs. School officials say that breakfast participation doubles when the omelets are offered.
The district’s high school also serves game day meals each Friday. Those meals feature dishes that are high in protein and made with locally sourced ingredients. The meals are available to the entire student body, not just athletes.
