APRIL 16—The Association for Healthcare Foodservice (AHF) will stage its first Culinary Competition June 7 during its inaugural conference in Austin, Texas.

For the competition, five teams will compete in a Food Network-style format. Each team, comprising and facility director, will have 75 minutes to prepare, cook and present one entrée and sides. Each team will have to use two ingredients provided by Tyson Food Service, the sponsor of the event, to create dishes that fit within stated nutritional guidelines and cost $5 or less to make. The dishes will be judged on use of texture and color, originality and plate presentation.

“As the president of the only self-operated healthcare foodservice association in the country, I am proud of the level of expertise that is representative of our independent foodservice facilities,” said AHF President Kris Schroeder, administrative director of support services for the Swedish Medical Center in Seattle. “The healthcare industry nurtures the best and brightest culinary talent and we are excited to offer them an opportunity to showcase their talents in this highly competitive competition.”
