Walt Disney Parks and Resorts recently unveiled a new healthy foods campaign aimed at kids. Well-balanced meals for children will now become the standard offering at Disneyoperated restaurants and kiosks at its U.S. parks. In addition, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts has announced a plan to eliminate all added trans fats and improve the nutritional value and enhance the taste of most of its food offerings for kids and adults by the end of 2007.

"We're going provide a wide range of options," says Mary Niven, VP, food and beverage, Disneyland Resort. "Not all meals are created equal. We are not going to set parameters. Every place we offer indulgent items, we also offer healthful options. It's about choice."

Disney will be providing healthier options for families that seek them, whether at the parks or through the broad array of licensed foods. The guidelines also limit the use of the Disney name and Disney characters in kids' products to those lower in overall fat, in saturated fat and in sugar.

"The Disney brand and characters are in a unique position to market food that kids will want and parents will feel good about giving them," says Niven.
