In the wake of Hurricane Katrina, members of the foodservice industry have staged multiple events to raise money and collect needed supplies.

Operators and associations across the country have also offered information about ways to help. (For more on Katrina: see pg. 24)

The National Restaurant Association's Dine for America fund-raiser to support the Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund was to be held Oct. 5. Operators are encouraged to donate some or all of the proceeds from the day's business. For more information, visit www.dineamerica.org.

Many schools in Alabama, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi were damaged and closed by the hurricane. The School Nutrition Association has established a fund to aid Gulf Coast school nutrition professionals. Donations can be sent to Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund, c/o School Nutrition Association, 700 S. Washington St., Suite 300, Alexandria, VA 22314

Colleges and universities across the nation have opened their doors for the displaced to enroll in classes. For more information on participating schools visit http://www.nacufs.org
