UT Extends VolCards to Off-campus Businesses

Deal with local merchants association frees students to use their meal plan debit cards at nearby

A new agreement between the University of Tennessee (UT) and the Cumberland Avenue Merchants Association will allow UT students and staff to use their VolCards at businesses such as McDonald’s, Goal Post Tavern, Copper Cellar, Firehouse Subs, Regions Bank, Graphic Creations and Rocky Top Books as soon as this summer, reports the Knoxville News Sentinel. VolCardsh are issued to UT students when they purchase a required university dining plan and traditionally could only be used at campus dining outlets.

Under the agreement with the Merchants Association, while they will not be allowed to be used to purchase alcohol, tobacco or lottery tickets they could be used for other types of transactions as soon as equipment is installed to process the payments.

UT's dining services is managed by Aramark.
