UNH Reopens Dairy Bar
September 12, 2008
University of New Hampshire Dining Services has ropened the campus’s landmark Dairy Bar after nearly a year, reports the New Hampshire student paper. Originally built in 1896 in Lynn, MA, it now sits in an operating train station on the UNH campus in Durham and was traditionally operated by students enrolled in the foodservice management program at UNH’s Thompson School of Applied Science. It is now operated as a retail outlet of UNH Dining Services, which funded the renovations.
The menu has also been expanded, from the original ice cream/frozen yogurt focus to a broader selection that also includes breakfast, lunch and dinner sandwiches and homemade soups made with locally sourced ingredients, as well as organic coffee drinks. Sustainable practices are also employed in the compostable containers and servingware, refillable mugs and even the staff’s wholly organic cotton uniforms. Mostly staffed by UNH students, the Dairy Bar is open seven days a week until 8 p.m
