The Student Center food court at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will open a series of new dining options as part of its 10-year contract extension with Chartwells. In addition to national branded concepts Blimpies Subs & Salads, Starbucks, McDonald’s and Chick-fil-A, it will include Chef Yan Can Cook, an Asian concept created by the celebrity chef Martin Yan; Rio Frontego, a Mexican concept; Tomato Head Red, a pizza/calzone concept; and Roots, which features traditional comfort foods.

Also, the existing Freshens smoothie station will be expanded into a Freshens Energy Zone with the addition of energy drinks. Chartwells will also open a yet-to-be-named c-store in the complex as part of a $1.1 million investment in the Student Center.
