San Francisco District Pilots Second Chance Breakfast

Breakfast participation shot up from 100 to 160 following the launch of a pilot Second Chance Breakfast program at San Francisco's Charles R. Drew Elementary School, reports the San Francisco Chronicle. The initiative offers students who didn't get before-school breakfast a second chance during the 10 am recess period. San Francisco, like many districts, is trying increase breakfast participation, especially among low-income students. Only about 15% of San Francisco students eligible for free or reduced price meals currently get breakfast at school.
