January 26, 2011
The University of Akron has named Gary Goldberg director of dining & administration, effective January 31. Goldberg, who comes from Purdue University, where he was director of dining at the Purdue Memorial Union, succeeds Zia Ahmed who resigned last fall to become director of dining at The Ohio State University.
Goldberg will be responsible for all dining operations at UA, including the university catering operations, residential dining, Zee’s convenience stores, Dairy Queen and the quick service restaurants—Sizzling Zone, Union Market, Climbing Rock Café, Starbucks, Summit Bistro and Auntie Ann’s.
"Gary Goldberg’s broad experience in dining operations will be very important to us in managing the demands of continued enrollment growth and the increased interest in hosting events in our various conference and meeting venues," says Associate Vice President for Auxiliary Enterprises Laurie Madden. "We are very pleased to have a person of Gary’s caliber join our University community."
Prior to his employment at Purdue, Goldberg was director of food and beverage at the Park Plaza Hotel and Holiday Inn at Miami Dolphins Stadium. His career also includes positions at Nova Southeastern University and Hyatt Pier 66 Hotel and Marina.
