Onsite Chefs Lauded at ACF Gathering

Among the award winners and honorees at the recent National Conference of the American Culinary Federation were a number of chefs from onsite foodservice operations.

Thomas Yanisko, CEC, CCA, AAC, who is director of nutrition and foodservice for Community Medical Center in Toms River, NJ, won the True Spirit Award for his efforts to aid children.

Receiving ACF President’s Medallions were Scott Daniels, CEC, CCA, senior director of dining and culinary for Sodexo in Middleton, DE, and Rene Marquis, CEC, CCE, PCEC, AAC, executive chef for the U.S. Army in Brandon, FL.

Anthony Lauri, CEC, AAC, who is executive chef at the University of Miami in Coral Gables, FL, won the 2008 Phillips Foods Recipe Contest while the dining room at Kendall College in Chicago was honored for Best Culinary Program in a Full-service Restaurant Facility.

Ann Cooper, director of nutrition services for the Berkeley (CA) Unified School District, was named the 2008 recipient of the Michael Ty Endowment Fund culinary scholarship.

Named 2008 American Academy of Chefs Academy Fellows were Michael Gaines, CEC, executive chef at Salinas Valley (CA) Memorial Healthcare System; Todd Gold, CEC, CCA, food service director at Pulaski Technical College Arkansas Culinary School in Little Rock; Ann Marie Mundrick, CEC, general manager/executive chef for Sodexo at Abington Friends School in Jenkintown, PA; and David Turcotte, CEC, executive chef for the U.S. Army.
