The University of Notre Dame will keep its dining halls open during spring break (March 7-15) for the first time in school history as a trial to determine if the policy change should become permanent, reports the school's Observer campus paper. The initiative comes in response to complaints from students who stay on campus during fall and spring breaks and are forced to rely on their own money to obtain food. Traditionally, dining halls were closed during school breaks with only retail outlets in the LaFortune Student Center and other locations remaining in operation.
