North Carolina Central University’s planned $13 million renovation of its Pearson Cafeteria has been delayed, reports the Durham Herald-Sun. Originally slated to open in April, then July, it now won’t be ready until at least November.
Students had been eating at a temporary dining facility since Pearson closed in 2007. The severely antiquated dining hall was originally built in the mid-1960s and could only seat about 400, a significant handicap given the school’s greatly expanded enrollment. The renovation will produce a modern dining hall that seats around 1,800 and will also add a teaching kitchen, a faculty dining room and a c-store.
