Kansas State University has named Derek Jackson director of housing and dining services, the unit that houses and feeds more than 5,000 students living on campus. Currently associate director for administrative services and residence life, he will begin his new duties July 1.

"I am excited about the opportunity to serve our K-State students and staff as the director of housing and dining services," Jackson says. "The department is of the highest caliber because of the commitment that our staff have in doing their work better every day. I look forward to the future as we continue to improve the housing and dining experience for our students, campus and community."

Jackson, who succeeds Chuck Werring who is retiring, first came to KSU in 1989 as a hall director. He returned in 1997 as assistant director for residence life. Jackson also has experiences in housing and dining at Emporia State University and the University of Georgia, where he directed buildings that housed athletes, games officials, security personnel and distinguished guests of the 1996 Summer Olympics.

"After considering candidates from across the nation, we found the best director for housing and dining services right here at K-State," says Pat Bosco, vice president for student life. "Under Derek's leadership, our students will continue to get an on-campus living experience that is second to none."
