Bradley University has established a new halal food service to meet the dietary needs of Muslim students. Selections currently include sandwiches and pizza but will eventually expand to hot dogs and chicken patties as well. Because halal rules require proteins to be prepared in specific ways, many observant Muslims opt for vegetarian options at college dining venues, so this program is designed to meet the needs for an expanded array of options that include meat-based dishes adhering to halal dietary requirements.

The halal program, along with a kosher food service introduced in August, are intended to better meet the needs of international students and to serve a multicultural campus community, says Dining Services Executive Director Ron Gibson.
