An analysis of FDA inspection reports of airline catering facilities by USA Today found numerous health and safety violations in the past two years. The inspections were at food preparation facilities in the U.S. for airline caterers LSG Sky Chefs, Gate Gourmet and Flying Food Group. Collectively, the three companies operate 91 kitchens and provide more than 100 million in-flight meals annually for airline clients. The citations include storing food at improper temperatures, using unclean equipment and employing workers using poor hygiene practices. Pests and vermins such as cockroaches, flies and mice were also detected at some of the sites.
