PA Middle School Wins Healthy Rice Bowls Contest

Upper Moreland Middle School, Willow Grove, PA, has “bowled over” students with healthy Asian and Fiesta rice bowls, winning the USA Rice Federation's annual contest for the healthiest rice bowls. District Foodservice Director Cynthia Dawso Van Druff and the middle school's manager, Stephanie Miller, say the bowls make use of lots of veggies and commodity chicken and the brown rice provides a whole grain for students. The school won a new rice cooker, which Van Druff says makes the preparation easier.
