Canadian Brands Invade U.S. Campuses

Canadian food and beverage concepts have opened pioneering outlets on two U.S. campuses recently. At the State University of New York (SUNY) campus in Plattsburgh, the country’s second campus-based Tim Hortons opens on Friday, October 3. Meanwhile, Chartwells is opening the first Second Cup café in the U.S. on the campus of Carroll University in Waukesha, WI, according to the Milwaukee Small Business Times.
Second Cup is Canada’s largest specialty coffee franchiser while Tim Hortons is one of the country's largest restaurant chains, with 3,257 systemwide restaurants, including 2,851 in Canada and 406 in the United States.
The Second Cup coffee shop will be located in Carroll’s Todd Wehr Memorial Library. Chartwells won the contract to provide dining services to Carroll University in 2007 and Second Cup is part of its renovation of the university’s food service facilitates.
The Tim Hortons at SUNY-Plattsburgh is located on the second level of the Angell College Center. It will be open from 7:30 am to 10 pm weekdays and 10 am to 10 pm on weekends and will serve the chain’s full menu, which is centered around homestyle soups and sandwiches, fresh baked goods and a complete beverage lineup including Tim Hortons’ own branded premium blend coffee.
