Bon Appetit Management Co. plans to open a scaled down version of locally famous gourmet grilled cheese restaurant Melt Bar & Grilled on the campus of Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland. To be called Melt University, it will be located on the ground floor of the brand new Tinkham Veale University Center as one of a number of dining outlets in the facility and will be the first Melt outlet on a college campus.

“We are focusing on quick service for both lunch and dinner without losing the Melt experience,” says Melt proprietor Matt Fish.

The planned menu will include 8 to 10 signature Melt gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches along with an exclusive Case Western Reserve-themed sandwich available only at the Melt University location. Also planned to be featured is Melt’s famous roasted garlic tomato soup and two specialty salads. Melt University will operate from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., and will be open to the public.

“We at Bon Appétit are thrilled to be working with Matt Fish and Melt,” says Bon Appetit Resident District Manager Jim O’Brien. “It’s a local favorite, it’s fresh, and now it’s a part of the university’s dynamic campus dining scene.”

In addition to Melt University, the $50 million, 89,000-sq.ft. Tinkham Center will house student organizations and services departments, the Flora Stone Mather Center for Women, the Inamori International Center for Ethics and Excellence, the LGBT Center, a restaurant, ballroom and five retail food concepts.

“The new Tinkham Veale University Center will stand as an exciting crossroads of the student experience,” says Richard Jamieson, vice president of campus services (which oversees dining at the university). “Melt really complements the dynamic character of this vibrant new space.”
