Amtrak is experimenting with a new food service car, the Cross Country Café, on its famous City of New Orleans train by offering a menu of New Orleans favorites, reports The Southern. Opened at the end of October, the menu includes iconic New Orleans dishes like jambalaya, red beans and rice and bread pudding pie, as well as more mainstream fare like quesadillas, lasagna and salads. If successful, the concept may be extended to other “themed” trains, such as the Texas Eagle, which might serve Texas barbecue as part of its on-board dining fare, Amtrak officials told the Southern.
