The American Dietetic Association (ADA), the world's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, is changing its name effective January 2012 to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. The change was announced during the group's Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo last September in San Diego.

“The name Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics promotes the strong science background and academic expertise of our members, primarily registered dietitians,” said ADA President Sylvia Escott-Stump at the time. “Nutrition science underpins wellness, prevention and treatment.”
