We host junior farmers markets during the summer, where each student receives a tote bag with three Nutrition Education Dollars. After a brief presentation on the importance of eating fresh fruits and vegetables, they get to use their money to purchase the items. The idea was if they received pretend money and got to decide how they would spend it, they would be more invested in the selection and excited to not only purchase it but also to eat it.

I can’t tell how happy it makes me to see a group of students walking around eating a whole red, yellow or green bell pepper like it was an apple.
