John Metz, chairman/CEO of Metz Enterprises and a longtime onsite industry figure, was lauded for his achievements in a wide range of foodservice segments at the annual Salute to Excellence Awards Gala and Banquet in Chicago during last month's National Restaurant Association's Show.

A past Silver Plate winner, Metz was inducted into the National Restaurant Association's Educational Foundation's 2005 College of Diplomates.

Three other distinguished foodservice industry figures were inducted as part of the same class. The three included restaurateurs Ralph Brennan, James Maynard and Jackie Trujillo. In addition, Sugar Foods Corp. Chairman/CEO Donald Tober was presented with the Thad & Alice Eure Ambassador of Hospitality Award, the group's most prestigious honor.

The Ambassador of Hospitality Award recognizes extraordinary achievement, career leadership and substantial contributions to education in the foodservice industry by one member of the College of Diplomates.

Tober, a Harvard Law School graduate, is the founder of Sugar Foods Corp. and one of the food industry's most eclectic figures. His activities have ranged from helping start Citymeals-on-Wheels for homebound elderly in New York City to serving on the boards of the National Dance Institute, the Julliard School and being a member of such culinary organizations as the Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseurs, Commanderie de Bordeaux and the Confrere Chevaliers du Tastevin.
